At the Swedish Transport Administration, we are keen to engage in a dialogue with the market to obtain an idea of available technical solutions that can give our organisation the boost it needs to achieve transport policy goals more quickly.
What knowledge do you or your company possess that can help us? The transport policy goals we are striving for are about long-term sustainability. The Swedish Transport Administration’s vision that “everybody arrives smoothly, the green and safe way” is based on these transport policy goals and describes how the transport system can contribute to long-term sustainability. Our vision embodies the areas of priority in which we, together with other stakeholders, must work purposefully to develop accessibility in a sustainable society.
Collaboration is crucial to increased accessibility
Multiple stakeholders are responsible for the various components of the transport system. Collaboration is therefore crucial if we are to develop accessibility in a sustainable manner. The Swedish Transport Administration is responsible for the long-term planning of state-owned infrastructure. Collaboration between the Administration and other stakeholders such as politicians, the business community, academia and our fellow public authorities is vital to creating change. By working with regional planners and municipalities, we can build sustainability into new infrastructure at the planning stage. The support we provide for research and innovation exemplifies how we can drive change towards a more sustainable society.
A dialogue on the possibilities of digitisation
As the transport system becomes increasingly digitised, the supplier market will inevitably have greater influence over the ability of the Swedish Transport Administration to contribute to the fulfilment of transport policy goals. We are now inviting the market to enter into a dialogue on the possibilities of digitisation in terms of contributing to the development of the Swedish Transport Administration and the transport system. Through this dialogue, we intend to stimulate innovation, create the necessary conditions to meet future needs and develop more quickly together with the market. To these ends, we want to know what technologies are available on the market and how they can be combined to contribute to the desired development.
How ideas will be presented
The best proposals will be presented to Swedish Transport Administration staff in live webinars. The Swedish Transport Administration has prioritised 10 aspects based on national transport policy goals and the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Submissions shall be clearly linked to one of these aspects. You can learn more about the 10 aspects below.
Discussions will be conducted in the form of dialogue in which you contribute your knowledge and ideas. The 30-minute webinars will be held once a month and will be recorded for later viewing on the Swedish Transport Administration intranet. It is planned to hold the first webinar during February 2022. Evaluation will be an ongoing process, so please apply without delay!
Once the webinar has been held, documentation will be made available for further discussion on a dialogue noticeboard, on which both suppliers and needs-owners can contribute to further development/implementation.
A functioning and sustainable society depends on good accessibility. It is our responsibility to develop accessibility in a sustainable manner. The Swedish Transport Administration is one of many stakeholders in a position to influence the transport network.
Below is a brief description of the Swedish Transport Administration’s 10 operational priorities, areas in which we have the opportunity to assist the transition to a sustainable society:
- Nationwide accessibility: Rural and urban areas, as well as the business community, need heavier and longer transports and more efficient transhipment opportunities, with healthy competition and on fair terms and conditions.
- Accessibility for all: A focus on ensuring that the basic accessibility needs of vulnerable and disadvantaged groups are met. The term vulnerable and disadvantaged groups refers to children, elderly people, people with disabilities and those with a lack of resources.
- Reliability and simplicity: A reliable transport system is crucial to a functioning society; simplicity = usability. Focus on public transport 2030.
- Security: Insecurity severely limits accessibility. Focus on the security of unprotected road users, with the emphasis on public transport. (Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BRÅ), perceived security).
- Climate: The goal is unchanged from that proposed by the Swedish Cross-Party Committee on Environmental Objectives: by 2030, emissions from domestic transport will be reduced by at least 70% compared with 2010.
- Biodiversity: This goal is formulated based on the Swedish Transport Administration guidelines Ecological and Cultural Heritage Standards regarding the adaption of infrastructure to the landscape.
- Air quality: RD environmental objectives for fresh air, especially for traffic, benchmark for background level of nitrogen dioxide in urban areas and particles in street spaces.
- Noise: Swedish Transport Administration guidelines on noise and vibration define this goal.
- The Swedish Transport Administration and Swedish Transport Agency’s proposal for TS road 2030 and the Swedish Transport Administration’s 50% reduction goal for railways.
- Active mobility: Daily exercise is vital to good health and prevents ill health. The transport system has enormous potential for contributing.
