Sustainability requirements for suppliers in procurement

The Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) procures in accordance with the requirements for government agencies, such as social requirements—including labor rights and anti-discrimination—and environmental requirements.

In Trafikverket’s procurements, requirements are set in several sustainability areas, for example in the environment, but also in terms of social considerations, which contribute to sustainable development. The government’s national procurement strategy requires authorities, through procurement, to promote fair employment conditions and increased employment. Agenda 2030 sets goals for decent working conditions, economic growth, and gender equality.

The social requirements in Trafikverket’s procurements include:

  • Minimum wage or minimum conditions when carrying out assignments in Sweden
  • Fundamental rights for workers throughout the supply chain in the production of goods and services
  • Taxes and social security contributions
  • Anti-discrimination
  • Ethical conduct, such as anti-corruption
  • Employment requirements

The purpose is to counteract, for example, wage dumping, undeclared work, discrimination, and corruption. No people should be exploited or come to harm, laws must be followed, and competition should be fair.
