”People’s expectations concerning the new railway have increased.”
Hello Jan Johansson, Project Manager! Can you tell us about the traffic survey that was carried out this autumn?
"Our consultants, Ramböl, have developed a future traffic operation plan for the new railway in three time perspectives: when the first development phase Mölnlycke-Bollebygd is ready, when the entire stretch of line from Göteborg-Borås is ready and when the entire new high-speed railway from Stockholm to Göteborg is ready. However, nothing has been decided yet – this is merely basic input for a robust and possible traffic operation model.
What kind of reactions have you received so far?
"We have presented the results to local authorities, regional authorities, companies and organisations that are affected by the new railway. We have concluded that the expectations among these bodies regarding the new railway have increased. The fact, for instance, that the municipality of Härryda plans to build an entirely new community with a station where the new railway is planned to operate is an important new feature that is not included in previous surveys that have been carried out on the line."
What is the next step?
To meet the need for wider-based decision-making input, we have now decided to also investigate possible traffic operations on the stretch with an extended number of train stops and a new station at the future Landvetter Södra site. This work is planned to be finished by the first quarter of 2015.
Once the new line between Göteborg and Borås has been completed, how often will the trains run?
"The aim is to be able to operate services between Göteborg and Borås with a frequency of one train every 15 minutes, which would entail significantly better opportunities than at present for choosing to travel by train. A halving of the travel time and a new rail connection to Landvetter Airport will provide new opportunities for commuting to and from work, for regional development and for international travel."
