Mölnlycke-Bollebygd: Railway plan

Read more about the Mölnlycke-Bollebygd stage and meet the Project Manager Jan Johansson.

What: About 25 kilometres of new railway between Mölnlycke and Bollebygd with a station at Landvetter airport. A part of the project Gothenburg-Borås.

Previous studies: The then National Rail Administration (Banverket) conducted a railway study on the section between Mölnlycke and Bollebygd. Decisions were made on the options for future planning in 2007. The work has since been suspended because there were insufficient funds to continue the planning of the assignment that the Swedish Transport Administration was tasked with by the Swedish government. The approved corridor begins in Mölnlycke and continues due east to Landvetter airport. From the airport it follows the motorway to Huvdaby where the corridor runs due east and north of the Rävlanda community on to Bollebygd. This route is supported by, among others, Västra Götaland Region, Gothenburg Region Association of Local Authorities, the affected municipalities and the County Administrative Board.

Current situation: Planning and development of the Mölnlycke-Bollebygd stretch is included in the national plan for the transport system from 2014 to 2025. In 2014, a consultancy company was procured for the Mölnlycke-Bollebygd section and the contract is scheduled to be signed in November. The investigative work will then begin in late 2014.

Assignment: To develop a railway plan for Mölnlycke-Bollebygd. This means pinpointing exactly where the new railway will run and how it is to be designed within the corridor that was determined in the railway study from 2007. We will also be developing an environmental impact statement on the environmental impact of the expansion as well as proposals for protective measures. Consultation with other government agencies, organisations and the affected general public to gain feedback and knowledge will feature continuously throughout the entire planning process.
