New railway Gothenburg–Borås and branch line through Mölnlycke

Better communications that make it easier to get to work and study, create conditions for regional development and also gives the opportunity for more sustainable and energy-efficient travel.

An agreement has been signed by all regional parties at the end of 2024, an important prerequisite for our continued planning.

The Gothenburg–Borås route is one of Sweden's largest commuting routes. Today's commuting by bus and car creates congestion both on traffic routes and in urban areas, and the single-track railway is not enough. With double track, which is built for 250 kilometers per hour, the travel time between Gothenburg and Borås can be greatly improved and the number of trains can increase significantly.

The station at Gothenburg Landvetter Airport makes it possible to get to and from the airport by train from various destinations in Western Sweden.

In addition to a new railway between Gothenburg and Borås, we will also start planning a branch line through Mölnlycke. It provides a direct connection to the new railway and makes it easier to get to several different locations, such as Mölndal and Borås, and to Gothenburg Landvetter Airport. It also makes it easier to work or study in different parts of the region and that the municipality can develop and grow.

Review documents from March 2022.

The program wants to emphasize the value of reading the Consultation Report, to understand how we actively work with consultation in Gothenburg-Borås.

During the ongoing Localization study, a method for sustainability assessments has been applied. The work will be taken further in our upcoming assignments for railway plans:
