Lock gates.

Locks in Trollhätte canal

To ensure the future of shipping on lake Vänern, the Swedish Transport Administration in collaboration with the Swedish Maritime Administration are building new navigational locks in in Lilla Edet, Trollhättan and Vänersborg.

The current locks are over a hundred years old and their function cannot be kept up for much longer by regular maintenance and therefore they need to be replaced. By 2030 the locks are considered to have reached their technical life expectancy.

New locks are needed

  • to ensure the shipping transportation needed by the industry
  • to create conditions for a future shift of transportation from roads to shipping
  • to enable larger vessels to traffic the canal in the future

New locks are also beneficial for the local and boat tourism industry and are a prerequisite for a continued development of the traffic on, to and from lake Vänern.

Welcome to supplier dialogues about new locks in March 2024

Now we invite you to further market dialogues for the construction of new navigational locks in Trollhätte canal.

The project includes locks in Trollhättan, Lilla Edet and Vänersborg and is a collaboration between the Swedish Transport Administration and the Swedish Maritime Administration. The project is part of the national plan for transport infrastructure and the estimated total cost is SEK 6.1 billion.

Within the project, an orientation proposal has been developed regarding suitable contract divisions, contract and remuneration forms and incentive solutions.

The aim of the dialogues is to inform about the proposed direction and to get valuable input from the market. The goal is to achieve a healthy distribution of risk in relation to the market and to implement the project in the best possible way.

At the meeting you will meet project manager Mikael Nummedal, project leaders Mikael Rintala and Lars Johansson, planning manager Markus Eek de Geer, contracting expert Mikael Andersson, procurement officer Caroline Rabbaa and purchasing manager Josefin Wennerlöf.

The dialogue takes place through individual meetings with the suppliers who wish to participate. Physical meetings will be held at Lilla Marieholmsgatan 7–9, Gothenburg. It is also possible to participate digitally.

Important to know about the supplier dialogues

• The dialogues are not part of future procurements and participation does not affect the possibility of submitting tenders for future contracting work.

• The information provided during the dialogues may change at a later stage. It is always the information in published procurement documents (request documents) that applies.

• The presentation material that the Swedish Transport Administration shows at the dialogues will be published on the project's website together with a summary of the views that the suppliers have given during the dialogue.
