The west part of the line, that leads up to Skavsta, passes through a flat agricultural landscape and in a submerged position along the forest area.
Progressing work with Nyköping Secondary Line
The Swedish Transport Administration recently finalized the railway plan for Nyköping Secondary Line, marking a significant milestone for the East Link project.
The branch line section serves as a connection between the East Link mainline railway, Nyköping Travel Centre and Skavsta Airport Station. The railway facility stretches about 8 kilometers, and is divided into an eastern and a western section, with Nyköping Travel Centre planned as a separate railway plan.
Nyköping Secondary Line is planned to be conventionally constructed with ballasted track and concrete sleepers. The western section will consist of double track while the eastern part will be double-tracked, transitioning to a single track that merges with the existing Nyköping railway line.
Various terrains requiring different construction methods
The route will pass through various terrains, including forested areas and agricultural landscapes, requiring different construction methods. The scope of contract is planned to consist of approximately 2.9 km embankment, 3.1 km cutting including three railway bridges and a fauna, pedestrian and bicycle bridge . The estimated cost is approximately 1.4 billion SEK for the construction contract and around 154 million SEK for the construction design contract.
The procurement will be conducted through the Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) model, allowing contractors to be involved early in the process to contribute with their expertise and experiences.
– By understanding each other's needs we can work more efficiently, which also enable us to deliver the best facility possible, says Magnus Sjöberg, Programme Director for the East Link project.
