The supplier market represents more than 70 per cent of the Swedish Transport Administration’s turnover. That is why being the first choice for suppliers is crucial to our own capabilities. We can gain access to the market and the best suppliers when we are given priority as a customer. This gives us competition and motivated suppliers who look at what the Swedish Transport Administration needs. This supports the development of methods and solutions, and is cost-effective as well.

In recent years, the Swedish Transport Administration has found it harder to bring in enough tenders for our procurement procedures. A lot of suppliers say our projects are just not profitable enough for them, and they decide not to work with us because of that. People think we are difficult to work with and slow to make decisions.

We are absolutely determined to change this. That is why we have set ourselves the goal of being the first choice for suppliers,

We rely on suppliers who are willing to work with us to fulfil our mission of creating an accessible and sustainable transport system. We cannot just rely on being a major developer when we are competing with other major developers both nationally and internationally.

The foundation: good relations and trust

The Swedish Transport Administration has embarked on a necessary cultural change in terms of how we work with our suppliers, from the start of a procurement procedure to the completion of the project. When it comes down to it, we need to build good relationships with our suppliers. This creates trust, which in turn leads to better business for both parties. We know cooperation is profitable and cost-effective, and good relations form the foundation for successful cooperation. We listen to our suppliers so that we can get the best deals.

Red clover with four leaves

Everyone at the Swedish Transport Administration is doing this together

To achieve our goal of being the first choice for suppliers, we have devised a comprehensive action plan with actions in four areas. This is illustrated by means of a four-leaf clover.

All business areas and central functions are involved in this work and are responsible for different elements of the action plan. The work is led by the Swedish Transport Administration’s management team.

The four areas of the action plan are:

  • Building relationships
  • Business models
  • Decision-making
  • Reducing conflict levels

Find out more about the actions included in the four areas under the + tabs below.
