Double tracks between Hallsberg and Degerön
The Swedish Transport Administration is gradually building a double track along the Hallsberg–Degerön route, and through the Hallsberg marshalling yard. We want to increase capacity and punctuality, as well as improve safety.
Never before have so many people and such a high volume of goods been transported by rail. There is not enough capacity on the Swedish railway and an expansion of the railway network is needed. More capacity will make the train smoother for travelers and businesses.
Purpose of the expansion
- increased capacity for freight trains as well as the potential for increasing passenger traffic
- good punctuality for both freight and passenger trains
- improved security along the route
More trains will be able to use the track and journey times will be reduced. Currently freight trains are being redirected along other routes due to a lack of capacity. There is a considerable risk of disruption on stretches of single track. The Frövi−Hallsberg, Degerön−Mjölby and Mjölby–Motala routes have already been expanded to double track.
Financing
In the 2022–2033 National Transportation System Plan, the whole route is financed.
